Kate del Castillo in film about slaying of Mexican pol

(EFE).- Kate del Castillo, who played a cartel boss in the telenovela "La Reina del Sur" and raised eyebrows with an appeal to Mexico's biggest real-life drug lord to use his power for good instead of evil, began work Friday on a film about the 1994 murder of a Mexican presidential hopeful.

The actress joined director Carlos Bolado in front of reporters for a press conference to mark the start of shooting on the movie about the assassination of Luis Donaldo Colosio.

Project highlights African culture in the Americas

San Diego, Feb 3 (EFE).- The African in the Americas project highlights the contributions black culture has made in the Western Hemisphere with a view to breaking down ethnic divisions through music and dance.

This cultural undertaking is the work of artist Makeda Dread and her WorldBeat Center, part of San Diego's Balboa Park Cultural Partnership.

Mexicans bid on Brazil airport concessions

Mexico City, Feb 3 (EFE).- Mexico's Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, or Asur, which operates nine airports, and private equity firm Advent International have submitted a joint bid for concessions to expand, maintain and operate three airports in Brazil.

"Advent and Asur submitted their joint bid to Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency," Asur said in a press release Thursday.

Bomb kills 1 in Colombia

(EFE).- One person died and four others were injured Thursday when a bomb detonated at a hotel in the west-central Colombian city of Cajamarca, authorities said.

The explosive device was planted by a man who had just checked out after a three-day stay at the Hotel Nevada, the secretary of the Tolima provincial government, Disraeli Labrador Forero, told Efe.
